Our cooks have several decades of combined restaurant experience and make excellent use of Scattergood Farm's certified organic vegetable fields and fruit orchards and grass-pastured beef, lamb, pork and turkey. Our farm provides the majority of students' delicious meals and we bake our own bread. Eating fresh, local and seasonal isn't new. It's been our practice for nearly 125 years.

The classroom environment is inquiry based and students sit at Harkness tables or in small groups. These settings encourage discussion, debate and collaboration. The average class size is 13 with a student to teacher ratio of 8:1.
The recreation program is designed to encourage students to participate in structured activities that teach them new skills. Students have fun, develop balance in their social interactions, increase their self-esteem, gain new experiences, learn to plan and set goals, increase their awareness of leisure resources, and develop culturally and emotionally.
World skating coaches for all levels and an indoor ice arena on campus, students can pursue their dreams of skating while going to school.

The hockey programs at RNS are dedicated to the overall development and growth of our student-athletes. Students who play hockey on varsity teams are able to receive an outstanding academic experience while playing hockey at a very competitive level. The combination of these two factors along with a structured, respectful environment, promotes growth in all aspects of our students' lives.
The Pumpkin Run is Vermont Academy's annual 5K which raises money and goods for our local community pantry. Participants who complete the race in time receive a pumpkin pie.

Class sizes at Riverside are small, so our students receive more individual attention. They have mandatory study hours with teaching faculty present for extra assistance, and they are taught time management and study skills. We also have a Peer Tutoring Association.
