MIDDLE SCHOOL FAIR INTRODUCES FAMILIES TO INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS
Cheshire Academy joins a consortium of six other independent schools in hosting an informational evening for middle school students and their parents on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Ethel Walker School in Simsbury. The concept behind this event is to introduce families to independent schools in the region with a "one-stop shopping" approach. The program will start at 5:00 p.m. with a keynote address by Douglas J. Lyons, Ed.D., executive director of the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools. Dr. Lyons will examine the developmental importance of the middle school years, the nature of adolescent learners and the traceable difference independent schools are making in the lives of their students. Following his talk, there will be a Q&A session for parents with Dr. Lyons and administrators from the eight schools, while students take on the challenges of a creative at project designed especially for them. Before the program draws to its close, parents and their children will talk with representatives from each of the participating schools at the evening's information fair. The attending schools will be: Cheshire Academy, Ethel Walker School, Independent Day School, Kingswood-Oxford School, Masters School, Renbrook School, and the Watkinson School.
