The Chapel of the Good Shepherd, located on the Upper School campus, is one of our oldest buildings and hosts weekly chapel services on Wednesday mornings and Sunday evenings. This year each of our graduating seniors speaks about his or her SSM memories, what they are taking with them as graduates, what they have learned, and what they hope to leave behind - speeches that are given over the course of the year in our chapel services.
SSM offers a wonderful, integrated dance program with classes available in tap, ballet, modern, and choreography. Dedicated dancers can audition for Arch Dance Company - a group that dances for two periods each day, working with guest directors and choreographers and performing in numerous venues.
In 2005 and 2006, SSM took four teams to the National Hockey Championships. Our U19 girls and our U18 boys both came away with championship titles in 2005 and our U19 girls repeated as National Champs in 2006. Our nationally recognized Hockey Program consists of 8 teams - 2 girls' teams and 2 boys' teams, competing in 55-70 games each season (September - April) and practicing 5 days a week with high-caliber coaches.
The Hirst Library holds over 20,000 volumes and is part of the network of Southern Minnesota Libraries (including the Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota). Students come to study, research, or just play a quiet game of chess.
Our visual arts program includes courses in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography and AP studio art. Visual arts scholarships are available.
This year SSM is fielding two teams in a unique Soccer Development Program. With games and tournament play throughout the school year (September - April) and daily practice times and training, our players benefit from the expertise of high-level coaches, the consistency of skills and tactics work, and the fun of playing every week with other elite soccer athletes.
