The 120-acre campus is conveniently located just 60 miles north of New York City. New York Military Academy, established in 1889 in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, is a college preparatory school for day and boarding students in grades 7 through 12. NYMA is dedicated to a comprehensive process of developing young leaders who are 'Set Apart for Excellence' by being inspired, engaged, and ready for success and fulfillment in college and in life. Utilizing the military model for leadership development and a rigorous, expeditionary curriculum grounded by a demand for competence in the classical disciplines, NYMA graduates are thoughtfully prepared to seek out extraordinary lives of accountability and service. In school, NYMA cadets pursue a cutting-edge, rigorous curriculum alongside a structured, leadership and life-skills focused military program guided by the school’s decades long affiliation with the United States Army JROTC. The academy is designated as an Honor Unit with Distinction by the Department of the Army and enjoys a solid reputation as one of the nation's leading institutions in numbers of graduates attending the service academies and earning 4-year ROTC College Scholarships. NYMA graduates are leaders in all walks of life. The Academy's "tracks of intention" high school discovery program enables students to pursue lines of academic credit and co-curricular experience that enable them to gain exposure to areas of aspiration. Beyond the Service Academy track, cadets have the option of pursuing planned tracks of study and experience that support interest in areas such as International Diplomacy, Education, Green Business Initiatives, Health Care Professions, Research in the Sciences, and others. The school's competitive academic, experiential education and athletic programs are enhanced by a structured boarding environment that includes a nightly, mentored study hall and a 12:1 student/teacher ratio in the classroom. Cadets enjoy opportunities to not only learn accountability but to practice peer leadership and to accept important responsibility. For over a century, this culture of cadet leadership, community responsibility and personal resilience has built an esprit de corps among the NYMA student body and graduates that has created a powerful alumni network that helps energize the campus. ESL, band/music (both a military marching band and performance music), computers, drill team and an equestrian program are available.

A private school in its infancy is quite different from the mature community it becomes over time. I wonder what the founders of these five schools would think about them today. I bet they would be very proud of their creations.
