At The Oliverian School, our mission is to educate students who, despite experiencing difficulties, want to transition to a college preparatory setting where they are inspired and supported as they prepare to succeed in a complex, intricate and ever-changing world. The Oliverian School adheres to a "three prong" approach that emphasizes Strength in Academics, Growth through Adventure, and Success in Service. We are intentionally small to ensure our students benefit from structure, personal attention, and a sense of belonging.

Academically, The Oliverian School offers a carefully constructed college preparatory program for non-traditional learners, based on the intellectual principles of Inquiry and Empirical Analysis, Social and Ethical Reasoning, Systemic/Ecological Thinking and Communication and Expression. Students not only participate in traditional core subject area coursework, but also project learning that encompasses real world needs and applications. Core offerings include math, science, language arts, social studies and spanish.

The Oliverian School's Adventure Program encompasses horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and ski activities. It is our belief that adventure education is a powerful way to accomplish objectives and encourage student growth in three main areas: the development of awareness and efficacy within one’s self combined with the ability to negotiate shared values and set goals among peers, the achievement of deep academic understanding and a capacity for reflective learning, as well as a passion for life-long fitness.

The Oliverian School's Stewardship Program fosters a commitment to community service and learning outside the classroom, through hands-on experiences on our working farm and wildlife preserve. In addition to maintaining their own personal space and home, students are challenged to care for our horses and our 1,800 campus. As students progress, they are expected to reach out into the community and world at large to provide further service.

SUMMER SESSION 2010
Our unique school environment combines an alternative academic program with a caring culture based on individualization and support. All students are engaged with experiential learning based on stewardship of the land and community as well as opportunities to explore through physical and creative adventures.
The entire program, from dormitory life to the classroom experience, is designed to help students with different interests and approaches to learning find support, inspiration, and success. We are confident that students who are looking for an enriching summer experience will find the right blend of support, challenge and FUN at Oliverian this summer. Designed with a Focus on Support and Enrichment The Oliverian Summer Session is intentionally small to provide maximum contact between the students and the experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated faculty. Students live in a family atmosphere with small dormitories of four to eight students and a dormitory parent who will guide the students in practicing independent living skills. In addition to dorm parents and teachers, students will have an advisor and a counselor who will help to guide them through the program.
Our seven week Summer Session offers boys and girls in grades nine through twelve an educational experience which inspires a passion for new knowledge and an understanding of the relevance of education to daily life. With an emphasis on experiential learning, our program allows students to pursue traditional subjects in non-traditional ways, allowing them to engage more fully and apply the subject matter to real-life circumstances. Students with different learning styles will find support, encouragement, and success.
The Summer Session offers academic credit in English, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Environmental Science, and Art. Academic courses run Monday through Thursday. Mornings are focused, individualized, and targeted toward academic study and support. Afternoons are dedicated to more experiential learning based on adventure, stewardship, and the arts. Fridays and weekends are reserved for off-campus experiential learning and recreational activities that students will help choose and plan. We believe and recognize that every student is unique and comes to our Summer Session his or her own goals, needs, and passions.
Opportunities Driven by the Unique Mix of Student Interests and Needs: Once we determine students’ academic needs and interests, we work together to build their experiential program combining academics, adventure, stewardship, and arts.
