| 1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative
to other boarding schools?
|
| |
| The teaching is in a league of its own, the campus is out of a storybook, and the people are some of the most fascinating, talented, ambitious, hard-working, and funny kids and adults you'll ever meet.
My three years at Deerfield were the best three years of my life. |
| |
| 2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school? |
| |
| Deerfield is where I came into my own, found myself, etc. Deerfield helped me become a lot more outgoing, accepting, and most of all, enlightened. The education Deerfield offers you, both in and out of the classroom, is impossible to capture in words.
In terms of college preperation, Deerfield is so hard that by the time you actually get to college, college is a joke! NO DAY at college could ever amount to the stress, workload, and commitments one has on any given 'Deerfield Day.'
But you have to experience it for yourself. There are no words to capture Deerfield.
|
| |
| 3.) What would you have done differently during your boarding school experience? |
| |
| I would have NEVER EVER GONE HOME AT ALL and I would have spent less time working sophomore year.
It's tempting to go home for weekends, especially during the first year, but RESTRAIN YOURSELF! You'll regret EVERY SECOND you spent off campus when it's too late. |
| |
| 4.) What would you never want to change about your school? |
| |
| The Arms Building, Sit down meals, Class Dress, and oh god everything? |
| |
| 5.) What things could be improved about your school? |
| |
| The newspaper--right now, it's run like the China Daily....
Admissions...[].
|
| |
| 6.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students
to your school? |
| |
| Things You HAVE TO DO at Deerfield:
1. Take a class with Mr. Heise! He's the best teacher you'll ever have.
2. Climb up to the Rock.
3. Pull at least one ridiculous, pointless allnighter with a group of friends at least once a month on a school night.
4. Sign up for rec tennis with slesar for co-curric.
5. Get on Restrictions at LEAST ONCE because there's nothing more amusing.
6. Bike ride on Mill Village Road right around sunset.
7. Chat with Ms. Vis
8. Get into a debate with Mr. Thomas-Adams.
9. Pull at least ONE mental health day each year.
10. Sleep once in awhile... |
| |
| |
| 1.)
What did you like best about your schools academics? |
| |
| Small class size, beauitful classrooms (the Arms Building is the best place to have a class), and, obviously, the teachers...you'll never have more engaging people than the people who teach at Deerfield. |
| |
| 2.)
What did you like least about the academics in your school? |
| |
| The math department has some real duds, as does the language department. |
| |
| |
| 1.)
What did you like best about your schools athletics? |
| |
| The facilities...Deerfield gives new meaning to the term "country club."
Also, of course, the spirit of the school...everyone bleeds green. |
| |
| 2.)
What did you like least about the athletics in your school? |
| |
| Requirements...thank god for the health center! |
| |
| |
| 1.)
What did you like best about your schools art program? |
| |
| Unlimited budget |
| |
| 2.)
What did you like least about your schools art program? |
| |
| Chorus for Credit: DO NOT BE FOOLED! this is a miserable class. |
| |
| |
| 1.)
What did you like most about the extracurricular activities offered
at your school? |
| |
| The unlimited budget, the diversity of opportunities, and caliber of the students you work with are all things that make extracurrics at Deerfield great.
The newspaper, however, continues to be plagued by censorship...if you get to Deerfield and work on the paper, be aggressive with your reporting! |
| |
| 2.)
What did you like least about the extracurricular activities offered
at your school? |
| |
| Not enough time to do everything you want to do. |
| |
| |
| 1.)
What was the best thing about dorm life in your school? |
| |
| Virtually everything was amazing. Faculty cared for you as if you were their own, you live with your best friends in the world, develop lifelasting bonds, have the most amazing memories...
LIVE IN JOHN LOUIS!! yeah JL2SOUTH! |
| |
| 2.)
What did you like least about dorm life? |
| |
| Parietals...made having guys in your room really really awkward. |
| |
| |
| 1.)
What was the best thing about your dining arrangements? |
| |
| Sit-down meals MAKE the community. Everyone thinks that if you go to boarding school, adjusting to college is easy...well not when you go to Deerfield, because Deerfield is like a big family. And the sit-down meals make Deerfield stand apart from all its peers. |
| |
| 2.)
What did you like least about your dining arrangements? |
| |
| Mr. [] represents everything Deerfield USED TO be...he's like the last standing monument to pre-60's Deerfield. |
| |
| |
| 1.) How welcome did you feel by the other students when you first
arrived at the school? |
| |
| Fitting in just sort of happens...when you live somewhere, it's really not an issue.
I had a great first-year experience. I had a crazy, animated, hilarious, and ummm sleepless dorm pretty much all three years. The first year was particularly insane, though. We had so much fun we barely got any work done.
|
| |
| 2.)
Describe the level of diversity and integration of students in your
school: |
| |
| Diversity is really high, but unfortunately, Deerfield remains a school where black kids sit with black kids and white kids sit with white kids.
I actually formed a really diverse group of friends at Deerfield, but it wasn't really until senior year that it all sort of happened. By senior year, things are a lot less segregated. |
| |
| 3.)
Describe typical fun activities you did on a weekend: |
| |
| FroYos in the Greer, lunch in Greenfield, and um work work work work work work.
THERE'S A LOT OF WORK! |
| |
| 4.)
What was the town like? |
| |
| Old Deerfield, MA is literally one of the most beautiful, picturesque towns in the world...in fact, Little Women was FILMED THERE.
But the neighboring town, Greenfield, is pretty nasty...But Taylor's has good food. And Greenfield provides us with the necessities: theaters, restaurants, drug store, grocery store, etc. |
