| 1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative
to other boarding schools?
|
| |
| South Kent School offers high school students the perfect environment for learning, maturing, and having fun. At SKS, the faculty provide a family environment that is second to none. Academics are focused on learning, not on grades. And athletics are very important to everyone and are given the attention they deserve. I loved attending a school that I felt comfortable at, could play hockey at an extremely high level, and still get a good education. |
| |
| 2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school? |
| |
| Boarding school made me mature quickly. I became much more independent and a better person. I learned about the true values in life and about people in general. By attending boarding school I am now a better-educated person. |
| |
| 3.) What would you have done differently during your boarding school experience? |
| |
| I would have gone to South Kent earlier in my high school career if I had known how great of an experience it would be. |
| |
| 4.) What would you never want to change about your school? |
| |
| The family environment. It is unbelievable how much the faculty cared about each and every student. It made you feel like you mattered. |
| |
| 5.) What things could be improved about your school? |
| |
| Updating the facilities, overall renovation project of dorms, athletic facilites, offices etc. |
| |
| 6.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students
to your school? |
| |
| Just make the most out of the South Kent experience as possible. Take advantage of every opportunity offered to you and don't be afraid to try new things. |
| |
| |
| 1.)
What did you like best about your schools academics? |
| |
| South Kent offers a wide range of courses, all of which are interesting and taught in unique ways. Small classes, enthusiastic teachers, and a quality curriculum all contributed to a great academic environment. |
| |
| 2.)
What did you like least about the academics in your school? |
| |
| Different courses (more electives) would have been a nice addition to the academics. Due to the small size of the school, the course selection was a little limited. |
| |
| |
| 1.)
What did you like best about your schools athletics? |
| |
| Hockey is my sport and the school prided itself on the hockey team. As a team, we were given a lot of credit and attention. Teachers, faculty and all students contributed efforts and support to us throughout the season. |
| |
| 2.)
What did you like least about the athletics in your school? |
| |
| I wish we had newer, up-to-date facilities in general. The weightroom was incredible but the hockey rink and fields could have used some work. |
| |
| |
| 1.)
What did you like best about your schools art program? |
| |
| Interesting courses were offered including Computer art, sculpting, photography and other studio arts courses. |
| |
| 2.)
What did you like least about your schools art program? |
| |
| I was satisfied overall with the art program, no complaints. |
| |
| |
| 1.)
What did you like most about the extracurricular activities offered
at your school? |
| |
| There were many opportunities outside of the classroom. I really enjoyed different community service projects and on-campus clubs that contributed to the overall success of the school. |
| |
| 2.)
What did you like least about the extracurricular activities offered
at your school? |
| |
| Since the school is located in the middle of nowhere, there was a limited selection of oppportunities. A more suburban setting could offer different options. |
| |
| |
| 1.)
What was the best thing about dorm life in your school? |
| |
| You could choose your own roomates, have tv's, refrigerators, computers etc. The dorms were great. |
| |
| 2.)
What did you like least about dorm life? |
| |
| We couldn't have internet in our rooms and some of the dorms definitely needed to be upgraded. |
| |
| |
| 1.)
What was the best thing about your dining arrangements? |
| |
| The food was outstanding. The cooks offered great home cooked meals that tasted as good as my mom's own food. Unbelievable job by the cooking staff. |
| |
| 2.)
What did you like least about your dining arrangements? |
| |
| As with any cafeteria, a lack of selection gets old after a while. |
| |
| |
| 1.) How welcome did you feel by the other students when you first
arrived at the school? |
| |
| The kids were great. I felt part of the school the first day I was there. They were all friendly and made an effort to include me in life there. |
| |
| 2.)
Describe the level of diversity and integration of students in your
school: |
| |
| Diversity is great. All ethnic backgrounds are represented at South Kent. Kids from countries all over the world were enrolled there. |
| |
| 3.)
Describe typical fun activities you did on a weekend: |
| |
| Played hockey, dances, movies, golfed, went to athletic events (professional), took trips. |
| |
| 4.)
What was the town like? |
| |
| The school set-up weekend trips to many places in town and out of town. Movies, food, dances, sporting events etc. |
