Reflections and Advice:
1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
I lived in a house that was converted into a dorm, with the dorm parent living on the 1st floor, and five students living on the 2nd floor. Because the dorm had so few students, it felt more 'home' like, making everyone more comfortable.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
The lasting friendships I made have been so fulfilling. Because boarding school has students from around the world, each person in a group of friends can potentially bring an entirely different perspective, which allows for really great conversation and appreciation for others.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
I wouldn't have done anything differently. My advice for kids going to boarding school would be to let yourself enjoy this part of your life. The sooner you accept that this is where you live, the sooner you will start having a great time.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
I liked that my teachers were always around. Over time, some teachers grew into really great role models and mentors. I am still in contact with some teachers 10 years later.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
My final words of wisdom are, if you're going to break the rules, make sure you are signed off of campus!
Academics:
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
In the humanities classes, my teachers cared more about students understanding why things happened in history as opposed to memorizing dates. With this mentality, we had a better understanding of international relations, and eventually learned the important dates as well.
Athletics:
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
I was not directly involved in any athletics at my school.
Art, Music, and Theatre:
1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
The arts program was small. The productions mounted were limited in their creativity and depth. Overall, it felt as if the school administration was not completely supportive of spending budget on the arts, but did so out of obligation.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
I wasn't really involved in any extra-curricular activities.
Dorm Life:
1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
As mentioned, I appreciated living in the smaller dorm. It gave each student more privacy. I was also assigned a private room for two of my three years, which was a great bonus!
Dining:
1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
The food was exactly what you would expect; not great, but not awful. The hours were limited, in that if you had a free period between meal times, you weren't able to grab a snack in the dining hall.
Social and Town Life:
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
The town our school is in was built around the school, so students were free to leave campus as their pleasure. There is a great deli across the street that loves having students for lunch.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
The ability to have your friends available at any given moment was really special.
