Activities During Boarding School I played womens ice hockey and lax. I was captain of hockey and played for all four years and I only played lax for one year.
Reflections and Advice:
1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?

First I would just like to say that my college has trouble keeping up with my boarding school in terms of facilities. Culver was amazing and gorgeous. I think the best thing about Culver was the availablity and dedication of the teaching staff. It is in a small town and i cannot think of one teacher that did not hand out their home phone numbers in case we had a question or would like to meet them somewhere to discuss homeworks and what not. Another great thing about Culver that I did not appreciate right away was the uniforms. I think they are great and they minimize the chances of exclusion and stereotypes younger people tend to use.

2.)  What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?

I did a lot of growing up at school. I was also able to get very organized and focussed on what i wanted to do and how I should feel. Culver taught me how to "get in the zone" so to speak, and taught me how to balance everything.

3.)  What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?

The only advice I would give is to live each day to the fullest. you get what you put in and just enjoy everyday. You will miss it when you're gone.

4.)  What did you like most about your school?

I loved the school, the athletics, the teachers, coaches, friends...everything. It wasn't easy getting through it but I have no regrets.

5.)  Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?

On saturday go play in the field. Run around have fun. Go to sporting events. And most of all, get off the computer and go interact with people, you'll learn a lot more.

Academics:

1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?

The academics were very tough; I spent at least two hours a night studying. My senior year they switched to block scheduling. This was more difficult for English classes or classes with a lot of reading because there was not enough time in the day to get it all done and discuss it all. But over all I would keep the block schedule, since its more similar to a college schedule.

Athletics:

1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?

The facilites were great. Honestly, you couldn't ask for more. Also, the dedication that the coaches and trainers provided was amazing.

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?

I was not involved. But from an audience standpoint they were enjoyable and always available if you wanted to participate.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?

There was always something going on. There is no way that you would have nothing to do. If you had nothing to do it was because you wanted nothing to do.

Dorm Life:

1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?

The dorm was great. It taught me a great deal on how to get along with different types of people and get things done. Also, the dorm is where you make some of the closest, long lasting friendships.

Dining:

1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.

Dining OK. The food was a little rough but they are working to improve that.

Social and Town Life:

1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.

There was not too much town life. There was a movie theater and subway and a few restaurants. There really was no need to go into town. But all that was necessary was available.

2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?

The uniforms helped socially because it set everyone equal. There were plenty of opportunities to interact and get to know everyone at school.
