Reflections and Advice:
1.)  What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
The best thing about my boarding school experience was the people I met. I do not feel that boarding school helped me grow as a person--I feel like I lost a lot of self-esteem due to my school's competitive academic culture.
2.)  What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
I would not do anything significantly differently in the applications process, or the first few weeks of school.
3.)  What would you never want to change about your school?
The small class size and the quality of the teaching.
4.)  What things could be improved about your school?
It could be a much more nurturing environment.
5.)  Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Hathaway House is the nicest of the girls dorms.
7.) How was your experience as an international student?
I have nothing to offer here.
Academics:
1.) What did you like best about your school’s academics?
Milton encouraged creative approaches to traditional subjects. I also appreaciated the small class sizes.
2.) What did you like least about the academics in your school?
I found that the school was too college-admission oriented--the advisors tended to encourage kids to choose particular classes and get involved in particular activities just in order to increase their chances of getting into college. The administration encouraged an environment that was too competitve--it did not foster a supportive community.
Athletics:
1.) What did you like best about your school’s athletics?
The girls athletic teams were very good on the whole.
2.) What did you like least about the athletics in your school?
The importance of athletics are not emphasized very strongly at Milton.
Art, Music, and Theatre:
1.) What did you like best about your school’s art program?
There was a great creative writing program, and the visual art teachers were very committed to teaching.
2.) What did you like least about your school’s art program?
The importance of studying art and experimenting with artistic expression is not emphasized much.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
1.) What did you like most about the extracurricular activities offered at your school?
There were a number of newspapers and magazines; students have ample opportunity to publish articles and creative writing.
2.) What did you like least about the extracurricular activities offered at your school?
Political groups such as amnesty international are not especially active on campus.
Dorm Life:
1.) What was the best thing about dorm life in your school?
There was a very close knit community of girls in my dorm.
2.) What did you like least about dorm life?
I did not like the fact that dorms wer single sex. Parietals were strictly enforced, as were rules about signing in and out of the dorm.
Dining:
1.) What was the best thing about your dining arrangements?
There is a good salad bar.
2.) What did you like least about your dining arrangements?
The food is terrible, and you are only allowed 1/2 hour to eat at night.
Social and Town Life:
1.) How welcome did you feel by the other students when you first arrived at the school
I felt very welcome. Milton has a good orientation program, and the school is fairly small.
2.) Describe the level of diversity and integration of students in your school:
There was a respectably sized minority population, although the minority students and the non-minority students tended not to socialize much outside of the dorms and athletic teams.
3.) Describe typical fun activities you did on a weekend:
We normally attended on-campus events such as movies, dances, and performances.
4.) What was the town like?
Students went to Boston fairly frequently on weekends, although the nearest subway stop is a hike. The town of Milton itself has nothing more than a couple of places to eat and a video store.
