Thornton Academy has been preparing students for a changing world since 1811. A rigorous and broad-based program of academic, arts and athletic opportunities challenges students to reach their potential in readiness for lifelong learning and productive participation in our dynamic world.
During the 2012-13 school year, over 700 student-athletes competed for the Thornton Academy Trojans. They learned team work and sportsmanship, build self discipline and self confidence, and develop skills to handle competitive situations.
Thornton Academy has the only four-year dance curriculum in the state of Maine. In the fall of 2013, the dance program will have a dance studio with new mirrors, sound system, marley floor, barres and changing rooms.
Thornton Academy offers over 40 Arts and New Media classes. There is a wide range of exciting courses that begin with an introductory class, and then progress to studio and advanced classes in each arts discipline. Student-musicians have a chance to participate in high caliber ensembles with unique and challenging performance opportunities.
Thornton Academy is a co-educational boarding school located on the coast of Maine an 1.5 hours north of Boston.

Our new STEM program offers state-of-the art classrooms and STEM agreements with Maine Universities.

The residential program offers a small and nurturing community with and 8:1 student to resident-faculty ratio.
