Reflections and Advice:
1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
Partnership with University of the South enriched the high school curriculum while exposing me to college courses.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
The best thing I gained was academic achievement. After scoring a 34 on the ACT, I was able to choose where I wanted to continue my education. I developed into an independent being by living away from home.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
If i could change anything, I would have gotten more involved my first year. Starting a new school can be scary and it's much easier to draw into yourself versus making connections. Exploring your interests early on is the most beneficial habit to establish during your high school career!
4.) What did you like most about your school?
Overall I liked the heavy emphasis on academics. I enjoyed being pushed to succeed higher than I would have thought possible.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Stirlings coffee is the best place to study/hangout/eat in Sewanee!
Academics:
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Academics were rigorous but felt worthwhile. Many courses were taught with real world connections. Several courses were taught by nearby college professors which helped students get in the groove of college classes.
Athletics:
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Athletics were not a huge focus. Most athletic teams played against local public schools and a few private schools.
Art, Music, and Theatre:
1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
Music and theatre were mandatory for students which helped in creating well rounded college applicants. Showcases gave students opportunities to perform to a wider audience and helped with confidence.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
The best thing about extracurriculars were how many were offered. There were clubs in every interest field ranging from STEM to humanities.
Dorm Life:
1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
Dorm setup was simple but effective. Roommates were able to be requested, and RA staff made residence halls feel homey.
Dining:
1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
Dining was fantastic and was partnered with the nearby university. Seating was not assigned and variety was offered everyday. Special dietary needs were generally met in at least one food type and could be made upon request.
Social and Town Life:
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
The surrounding town was very slow and not close to any cities. Because it was close to a college campus, a few local hangouts were nearby. Many boarding students were bored on weekends.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Social life was good. Despite having several cliques, school felt like family. Partying took place generally off campus.
