A Marvelwood education is characterized by intensive personal attention to the individual student. We are passionate about providing an educational environment which nurtures academic and personal growth and awakens the potential that resides in each of our students. A small, coeducational boarding and day school located just 2 hours from New York City in beautiful Kent, Connecticut, Marvelwood strives always to be a place where each child is known, valued, and treated with respect. Honors and Advanced Placement courses, English as a foreign language, private Strategies and math tutorial programs, and a dedication to experiential education enable Marvelwood to serve a diverse student body with a wide range of learning styles. Our experienced and dedicated faculty is committed to each student’s success and delivers a superior educational program, attuned to individual strengths and weaknesses. Nonacademic programs including weekly community service, visual and performing arts electives, an impressive slate of interscholastic and noncompetitive sports offerings, and a variety of leadership opportunities increase the potential for engagement and success outside the classroom. In every way, the structure of the School is thoughtfully designed to support college-bound students in their efforts to achieve positive intellectual, social, personal, and moral growth.

School Notes:
  • The Marvelwood Summer Program, July 6th - August 2nd, 2008. Featuring classes for credit or enrichment, SAT and TOEFL preparation, ESL, and a choice of two intense extracurricular seminars: Leadership or Theater. The four week Marvelwood Summer Program recognizes each student walks a unique path towards success, and one that is not always easily recognized in traditional teaching environments. Small classes, experienced faculty and a dedication to each student’s individual success distinguish Marvelwood’s Summer Program and provide a solid foundation for academic success. The Leadership Seminar features rock climbing, white water canoeing and kayaking, hiking, and peer mediation. In the Drama Seminar, participants study all aspects of theatre production culminating in a performance for the public. Cultural immersion and homestay opportunities are available for international students following the Summer Program.
  • English Language Learners (ELL) Summer Program August 3rd - August 16th, 2008. An intensive two-week English Language Learners (ELL) Summer Program for international students, open to any student entering 7th to 10th grade in an American school for the 2008 – 2009 academic year. This program immerses students in the English language and culture, and prepares them for their studies in the United States. The ELL Summer Program reflects the Marvelwood mission: to provide each student with a unique and creative educational experience that fits his or her own learning style. This “seminar” style of learning is supported by three classes through the day, two in the morning and one after lunch. Classes are offered at both the beginner and intermediate levels, and focus on hands-on learning and group interaction, with supplemental text and computer work. Afternoons incorporate interactive programs including art classes, outdoor sports and activities, small field trips, and visits to local historical and cultural landmarks to help students learn English “on the fly.” At the end of the program, a written summary of the each student's performance and progress is provided, and can be sent to their next educational destination.
