Outside academics, I mostly spent time at school events, hanging out with friends, playing basketball occasionally and going to the gym. I wasn’t heavily involved in clubs, but there were always things happening if you wanted to be social.

Reflections and Advice:

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
What stood out to me about Bodwell was how quickly you grow up there. Living with people from so many different countries changes the way you think without you even noticing it at first. You learn how to deal with different personalities, cultures and habits every single day. I think that part taught me more than some classes honestly.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
The biggest thing boarding school gave me was independence. I became better at managing my time, handling pressure, and adapting to different situations. I definitely left more confident than when I arrived.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
I probably would’ve talked to more people earlier instead of staying comfortable around familiar groups at first. My advice to new students would be to stay open-minded and not panic if the adjustment feels hard in the beginning because almost everyone goes through that.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
Overall, what I liked most was the people and the experience of living independently at a young age. It wasn’t perfect every day but that’s kind of what made it real and memorable.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Don’t spend all your time worrying only about grades. Some of the best memories come from random moments you don’t plan for. Also, don’t only stay around people from your own country because that’s where you miss out on a big part of the experience.

Academics:

1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The academics could get stressful sometimes, especially during exam periods but I think it prepared people well for university. Some teachers were stricter than others, but most genuinely wanted students to improve. I also liked how international the classrooms felt because people approached things differently depending on where they came from.

Athletics:

1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
I liked that sports weren’t only for super competitive athletes. A lot of students joined activities just to stay active or relax after classes. Basketball and gym time were probably the most popular from what I remember.

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
I wasn’t deeply involved in the arts side, but the students who were involved seemed really passionate about it. School performances and events usually had good energy because people actually showed up and supported each other.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
The best extracurricular moments were honestly the cultural events. Since students came from everywhere, those events felt different from normal school activities. It made the school feel more alive and less repetitive.

Dorm Life:

1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
Most of my memories came from dorm life. Random background conversations, random jokes in the hallway, stressing together during exams and all is what I still remember now. Living with other people teaches you patience pretty quickly because everyone grows up differently.

Dining:

1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
The food depended on the day honestly. Some meals were good, some were forgettable, but there were enough options most of the time. The social part of meals is what stood out more to me anyway.

Social and Town Life:

1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
North Vancouver was probably one of the nicest parts of the experience. The area around the school is calm and safe, and being close to Vancouver was nice when you wanted to get away from campus for a bit. The scenery around there is actually really beautiful.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
The social experience depends a lot on your attitude. If you stay isolated, boarding school can feel lonely. But if you put yourself out there even a little, you end up meeting people you probably never would’ve met otherwise.
