In its 164th year, Blair continues to offer a superior college-preparatory program while holding firmly to its tradition of being a community fully focused on the development of each individual student. In this environment, students learn to advocate for themselves, become service-minded, and develop the leadership skills necessary for success in college and beyond. Students balance their academic work with extensive opportunities to develop in drama, music ensembles, competitive athletics, and numerous extracurricular activities. The balance between high academic and personal expectations and a willingness to provide individual focus is, if not unique to Blair, perhaps its greatest strength......

School Notes:
- Blair Academy holds firmly to its tradition of being a supportive, family-oriented community while offering a dynamic classroom experience. Students receive a superior college preparatory education in addition to developing leadership skills, becoming service-minded, and enhancing their athletic and/or artistic potential with the guidance and support of outstanding coaches, teachers and mentors.
- Our Tuesday evening lecture series, The Society of Skeptics, has been in continuous existence since 1977, and is, arguably, the most premier high school lecture series in the country. Over the past 33 years, under the tutelage of Dr. Martin Miller, the weekly lecture series has featured a wide variety of speakers who are engaging, accomplished in their respective fields, and at times controversial. One thing is for sure: they all succeed in generating healthy discussion in the Blair classrooms and around campus. A selection of speakers can be viewed on the Blair web site.
- Our size plays a crucial role in the spirit of our school as we blend supervision and structure with opportunity and independence. Thus, while we are small enough to run dorm study halls and to foster close student-faculty relationships, we also have the size to support exciting curricular offerings such as Asian Studies, Architecture, Roman History, Economics, Video Production, Chinese and Marine Science. Blair believes that physical education is beneficial and important; hence all students participate in a program of athletics or supervised recreational sports. Blair fields twenty-eight competitive varsity teams; most teams field junior varsity and thirds-level competitive teams as well, as participation is the key to Blair’s sports program. In addition, Blair boasts a notable fine and performing arts program that is integral to its well-rounded curriculum. From introductory-level to advanced, art courses encourage students to think and express themselves creatively through various mediums, including canvas, dance, music, theater, film, graphic design and ceramics. In the spring of 2009, the Blair wind symphony and string ensemble joined together to boast the first ever Blair Academy Orchestra, a momentous occasion for the music program. With vocal and instrumental performance tours across Eastern Europe, musicians and vocalists at Blair are able to explore international travel while performing at some of Europe’s most historic concert venues.
- Blair recently completed several new athletic facilities, including ten outdoor tennis courts, a new track, and an all-weather turf field for football, soccer and lacrosse. In addition, the state-of-the-art Student Activities and Athletic Center was completed in 2009. The new facility includes seven squash courts; all purpose indoor courts for basketball, volleyball, intramural sports, etc.; a new fitness and weight center; and a student activities center housing the bookstore, campus grill, and college counseling suite.

5 More Schools and Their Founders
A private school in its infancy is quite different from the mature community it becomes over time. I wonder what the founders of these five schools would think about them today. I bet they would be very proud of their creations.
