Congratulations to Victoria Hunter who was selected to represent our region at the state competition level. The competition was stiff, with all the local Good Citizen winners scoring high on the judges' forms. However, Victoria was particularly outstanding in the view of the judges. After a couple of hours of reading deliberation, Victoria was chosen. Congratulations, Victoria! Also, Victoria has been selected as a recipient of the 2011-2012 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship. This award recognizes high school seniors from Comcast communities for commitment to community service, academic achievement, and demonstrated leadership. To acknowledge these accomplishments, recipients receive a one-time grant of $1000. Congratulations to Andrea Bird and Zoe Robb who were nominated to the All Conference 2nd Team. They are considered two of the Top 20 players in the Constitution Sate Conference by the soccer coaches in the Conference. Congratulations to Victoria Hunter, recipient of the 2010 Good Citizen Award by the Daughters of the American Revolution.Upon her arrival at Holy Family, victoria began participating in many activities. In addition to managing the basketball and softball teams in 2009, serving as captain of the soccer team in 2010 and participating in the Hugh O'Brien Leadership program from 2008-2010, she is presently serving as Senior Class President and Student Council President. As a junior she was inducted into the National Honor Society, received the school Citizenship Pin in 2009-2010., the 2009 Presidential Award for Academic Excellence and the 2010 Presidential Award for Academic Achievement. She hopes to attend Columbia University as an undergraduate and later as a law student. 2009-2010 Camilla Lidonde received the "Most Valuable Player Award" from the CT Girls' Soccer Coaches Association. We are proud of Camilla! Seung Eun Ha and Ja Young Kim participated in the Quinibaug Valley Music Festival on December 2, 2009. It proved to be a fantastic performance that all enjoyed. Congregations, girls! Camilla Lidonde has been named to the All Conference Girls’ Soccer Team. In our conference Camilla ended this season with 19 goals, and is ranked 2nd in all of Eastern Connecticut according to the Norwich Bulletin's Leading Score listing. She has really shined this year! Jessica Giunta- received the D.A.R. Good Citizen award for having demonstrated the qualities of Dependability, Service, Leadership and Patriotism. Jessica is senior class president, Student Council President and captain of the varsity soccer team. An honor student, she also donates hours of time to help others. According to her advisor, Jessica "has made a tremendous impact" on Teens in Action, a community service group at the Academy. She has helped raise scholarship money for needy students, contributed to food bank drives, donated 15 winter coats this year, and has helped fill Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for over 100 families last year. Her community service work is described as "unparalleled" at the Academy. She enjoys singing and is a section leader in Glee Club. Her college aspirations include pre-med; she desires to be a surgeon. 2008-2009 Softball- Senior Co-Captain Emily Howard was ranked 8th in the Constitution State Conference, and named to the Constitution State Conference First Team. Senior Ashley Wendorf, Sophomore Mariah Nieves, and Freshman Sofia Guarnero were Constitution State Conference Honorable Mention. Junior Jessica Giunta was chosen to play in the 1st Annual Junior Select Team Game. Jessica was nominated by her coaches to the team, and was chosen by the selection committee to play in the June 16th game. Only 15 girls from the state are chosen to play on each team. Jessica will be playing on the Small/Medium Division team. Seniors Emily Howard and Ashley Wendorf were chosen to play in the 27th Annual Senior All Star Game on June 16th in Meriden. Like the Junior Select Team, the girls were nominated by their coach and were chosen by the selection committee. Andrea Pasos Palma received honorable mention in the Donate Life Connecticut Poster Art Contest. She is to receive a prize at the Connecticut State Capitol Building in Hartford, CT. Rachel Hanrahan was named to the Connecticut High School Coaches Association All-State Basketball Academic Team. The Academy of the Holy Family qualified for the State Tournament in both soccer and basketball. Out of all of the soccer players in our league, for the eleven best players, Allie Cobb was voted fourth overall for first team Constitution State Conference; both Ashley Wendorf and Candice Breau received honorable mention. Casey Oliver was voted top goalie for first team. These girls received these honors through the votes of coaches of our opposing teams! ...hide
