Reflections and Advice:
1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
Bodwell’s uniqueness, in my experience, came from how much responsibility it gave students to shape the community. From parliament debates to pep rallies, it wasn’t a place where you just showed up to class and went home but you were expected to participate, to contribute, and to help set the tone of the school. That sense of ownership made the whole experience special.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
The best thing that happened at Bodwell was discovering I had a voice and that people would listen. That realization has carried into university and will, I know, shape my future career.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
Don’t hold back, get involved early. Whether it’s parliament, clubs, or sports, Bodwell rewards initiative.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
What I loved most was the school spirit. Bodwell made you feel like you were part of something bigger than yourself whether it was cheering on the Bruins, organizing events through student parliament, or just hanging out in the common spaces after class. That sense of energy and inclusion is hard to find elsewhere, and it made my high school years unforgettable.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Get involved right away. Join a club, sign up for a sport, or go to the school events even if you don’t know anyone yet, that’s how you’ll make friends. Bodwell is designed for you to explore new things. Favorite pro-tip: if you get the chance, grab a late-night poutine from the cafeteria, it hits differently after a long study session. Also, don’t miss Mr. Baker’s physics demos, even if you’re not into science, they’re legendary.
Academics:
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Physics stood out for me, thanks to Mr. Baker’s unforgettable demonstrations. There’s something about capturing a rainbow on camera during an optics lesson that sticks with you forever. The academics were challenging but fair, and I appreciated how teachers emphasized understanding rather than rote learning.
Athletics:
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Bodwell’s athletics were more about community than competition. Whether you were on the court or in the stands, you felt part of the team. The coaches encouraged everyone to participate, and that inclusivity built a lot of school pride. The pride in wearing school colors and cheering on the Bruins created an incredible sense of belonging. Sports events brought the school together and made me feel part of something bigger.
Art, Music, and Theatre:
1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
Even though I wasn’t directly involved, I admired how vibrant the arts scene was. Plays, music performances, and art shows added color to the school calendar and reminded me that talent came in many forms.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
Beyond sports and parliament, Bodwell had an endless range of clubs. It felt like if something didn’t exist, you could start it. That openness made the school feel alive and adaptable.
Dorm Life:
1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
Dorm life was full of late-night study sessions, snack runs, and learning how to share space with people from all over the world. Those experiences taught me patience and communication, and some of my strongest friendships were formed in those halls.
Dining:
1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
The cafeteria was a hub where you didn’t just eat, but you caught up with friends, swapped stories, and met new people. I loved that the menu reflected the international student body, it was a literal taste of diversity.
Social and Town Life:
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Being in Vancouver made the experience even better. We were close to mountains, the ocean, and downtown. It was like having three different playgrounds at once where you could have an outdoor adventure one weekend and explore city life the next.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Bodwell was incredibly social, but not cliquey. The mix of cultures meant that everyone was curious about each other, and that curiosity built bridges. For me, the combination of sports events, student parliament, and casual time in the dorms made for a well-rounded social experience.
