About the Author:

Years Attended Boarding School:
2021-2024
Sports and Activities:
I poured a lot of energy into athletics, especially soccer. I wasn’t the star forward, but being part of the team taught me discipline, true leadership, and how vital every role is to success. I also took part in organizing the annual house spirit challenges by helping design posters, manage music playlists, and rally support. Those moments of collaboration lit up the school like nothing else.
College Enrolled:
University of Alberta
Home Town, State:
Edmonton

Reflections and Advice:

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
From the moment I walked onto the Brentwood campus, I felt its rhythm: sunrise over the bay, energetic chatter in the halls, coaches greeting you by name before practice. What sets Brentwood apart is how it seamlessly blends academic rigor with real support, whether that’s from teachers who genuinely care or peers who push you to be your best, even when you doubt yourself.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
The best part of Brentwood wasn’t the victories or the grades. It was becoming someone who could lead, learn, and care deeply about others.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
If I could go back, I’d be kinder to myself during those first months, trusting that the friendships, support, and growth would follow. My advice is to dive in and take risks. Even small choices shaped the person I’m becoming today.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
What I loved most about Brentwood was how it helped me grow into someone who can combine ambition with empathy, academic drive with community spirit, and goal-setting with gratitude.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
To anyone new: choose courage over comfort. Cheer for every team, ask every question, and pause to watch the sunset near the docks, it becomes a memory that reminds you why you’re here. And don’t skip the hot chocolate nights; they’re perfect after an afternoon rain.

Academics:

1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The academics pushed me further than I ever thought I could go. But it wasn’t just the heavy workload, what made the difference were teachers like Mr. Sinclair in Math and Ms. Grant in History, who treated us like collaborators, not just students. They were the ones who stayed after class for extra help and reminded us that excellence is built, not simply expected.

Athletics:

1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Soccer was where I discovered my rhythm. Whether I was substituting on the varsity squad or setting up plays during JV matches, I learned the basics of teamwork, endurance, and resilience. Coach Thompson pushed us hard, but with care, and that’s what helped me find balance and drive.

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
I loved being part of the audience for performances. Watching friends deliver lines, music, or dance taught me the bravery it takes to create. There’s something electric about being a supporter, you feel the pride of your peers right alongside them.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
Helping out with community events like campus cleanups and food drives showed me how a small effort can ripple outward. One memory that sticks with me is setting up the art studio during a school exhibition. Standing there looking at students’ work, I felt how much each of us is part of something bigger here.

Dorm Life:

1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
Living in Barnes House gave me evenings of heartfelt conversations, hallway laughter, and late-night group study sessions fueled by snack raids. Our House Master always checked in, making sure we balanced schoolwork with self-care. It was a constant reminder that Brentwood was as invested in our well-being as in our grades.

Dining:

1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
The cafeteria was always lively, and I’ll never forget the smell of fresh soup and the weekly international food nights. You could sit wherever you wanted to sit. It wasn’t about the meal, it was a melting pot of cultures, stories, and laughter shared with friends between classes.

Social and Town Life:

1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Brentwood feels so special becuase its in the Bay and its quite a charm. Whether it was grabbing a chocolate bar from the local store or taking a team walk along the shore after practice, those small routines made me appreciate both the school and its surroundings
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Moments like movie nights in the lounge, random jam sessions, or cheering on house competitions were the threads that wove our community together. Brentwood social life was real, grounded, and unforgettable.
