About the Author:

Years Attended Boarding School:

Sports and Activities:
I loved being involved in both clubs and athletics at Branksome. The clubs gave me space to explore different interests, from service-oriented opportunities to creative ones, while sports taught me discipline and teamwork. Being active outside of academics really helped me balance the stress of the IB program and gave me some of my favorite memories with friends. I wasn’t always the loudest person in the room, but these activities gave me a voice and a place to contribute.
College Enrolled:
Western University

Reflections and Advice:

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
What makes Branksome Hall special, in my eyes, is the way it feels like both a school and a second home. The academics are rigorous, yes, but what sets it apart is the deep care the teachers and counsellors have for every student. They didn’t just prepare me to get into university but they helped me discover what kind of person I want to be. Growing up at Branksome, I had the chance to see myself evolve from a shy young girl into a confident young woman who wants to lead with compassion and kindness.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
The best part of Branksome for me was the support system we had. We had teachers, counsellors, and friends who believed in me, even when I doubted myself.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
If I could go back and do something differently, I’d tell my younger self to be more confident earlier, and to take risks without worrying so much about failing. My advice to future students: trust the process. Branksome will challenge you, but it will also support you every step of the way.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
What I liked most about Branksome was how it shaped me as a whole person. It didn’t just prepare me for university, it prepared me for life, by helping me find my purpose and showing me the importance of compassion and community.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
My final words of wisdom would be take advantage of all the opportunities, whether it’s joining a team, trying a club, or simply connecting with your teachers. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, there are so many people here who want you to succeed. And if you’re ever feeling overwhelmed, find a quiet spot on campus to reflect, it’s amazing how grounding that can be.

Academics:

1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The IB program at Branksome was definitely challenging, but it pushed me to grow in ways I didn’t expect. My teachers were incredibly supportive, they knew when to encourage me and when to give me the space to figure things out on my own. That combination of guidance and independence was so valuable. My counsellors were also a huge part of my journey. They really put students’ best interests at heart, helping us not only with applications but also with managing stress and finding balance.

Athletics:

1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Athletics at Branksome were such a meaningful part of my time here. It wasn’t just about competing, it was about learning resilience, building friendships, and staying active in a healthy, balanced way. The coaches cared about us as people, not just as athletes. Practices and games became moments to reset and refocus, even during busy academic times.

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
Even though I wasn’t deeply involved in the arts, I always admired the creativity around me. Going to performances and exhibitions was inspiring, it reminded me that Branksome is a place where every student can find their outlet, whether that’s through science, sports, or the arts.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
Clubs were another way Branksome opened doors for me. They helped me learn leadership in smaller, everyday ways, organizing events, working with peers, and finding causes to support. I think what stood out most was the variety: no matter what you were interested in, there was a place for you to get involved and give back.

Dorm Life:

1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
As a day student, I didn’t live in residence, but I spent time with friends who boarded. Seeing their experience gave me an appreciation for how Branksome builds community both inside and outside the dorms. The friendships they formed looked like family bonds.

Dining:

1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
Dining was a social highlight, meals were a chance to connect with friends, catch up after classes, and enjoy some downtime. It wasn’t just about food; it was about sharing moments together.

Social and Town Life:

1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Being in Toronto was such an asset. It gave us access to cultural events, volunteering opportunities, and so much diversity. Toronto’s vibrancy really reflected Branksome’s own global outlook.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Social life at Branksome was supportive and full of energy. Spirit Week and assemblies were highlights, but so were the everyday moments. Study groups that turned into laughter, or long talks with friends after a game or club meeting. What I appreciated most was how inclusive the community felt.
