Sports and Activities:
I served as an Editor for the school's digital newsletter. I was also a member of the Student Ambassador Committee, giving tours to prospective families. I participated in the Model United Nations club, which prepared thoroughly for one conference per semester. Outside of leadership, I swam competitively on the school team.

Home Town, State:

Reflections and Advice:

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
Fulford's distinct advantage is its intentional design as a preparatory academy. The environment is structured to simulate the demands of a larger competitive high school but within a supportive, contained setting. The mandatory participation in academics, arts and athletics creates a balanced schedule that builds discipline. The integration of English language development into all subjects was particularly effective for skill-building.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
My most significant achievement was winning the "Head of School Award" for community contribution. More importantly, I learned how to build a daily routine that balanced work and well-being. I became more independent and proactive in seeking opportunities.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
I would have networked more with the faculty earlier on. Their advice is invaluable. My advice is treat it like a training ground. Use every resource of the teachers, the clubs, the town. Be intentional.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
The sense of clarity. The path forward of improving English, grades and study habits was clear. The school provides the framework and you learn how to fill it in effectively.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Incoming students should visit the Brockville Public Library even to just sit and read. It's a beautiful old building. The snack bar's apple juice is surprisingly good. When selecting a dorm, aim for the second floor because it's a good balance of accessibility and quiet.

Academics:

1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The academic pacing is deliberate. Teachers are accessible, often holding extra tutorial sessions in the evenings. I appreciated the Global Perspectives course, which focused on current events and critical writing. The workload required consistent daily effort but it was fair. The small class size meant discussions were in depth and you could not remain passive.

Athletics:

1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The athletics program emphasizes participation and foundational skill development. I was on the swim team and our coach focused on technique and personal best times rather than just winning. The facility is a shared community pool so we had specific practice times. The commitment taught me time management between afternoon practice and evening studies.

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
I participated in the music program. The practice rooms are modest but available for booking. I took private violin lessons through the school with a local instructor. While not a conservatory level program, it provided a structured way to continue my musical training. The school's winter concert was a nice community event.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
Beyond clubs, the required community service was valuable. I volunteered at the local public library, helping organize children's reading hours. It connected me to the town and was a different kind of responsibility. The school also hosted guest speakers from universities, which were informative.

Dorm Life:

1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
The dormitory is functional. I appreciated the structured quiet hours for study. Room selection is based on seniority and conduct, which is a good incentive. The residence staff were firm but caring. The best part was the collaborative studying that happened in the common areas and we often worked on problem sets together.

Dining:

1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
Meals are at set times in the dining hall. The food offers variety with vegetarian options always available. The quality is standard institutional catering. I liked that faculty families sometimes dined with us, which made for more casual conversations.

Social and Town Life:

1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Brockville is historic and scenic. We had walking privileges to the downtown area. I enjoyed visiting the independent bookstore and the coffee shops to study off-campus. It's a quiet, polite Canadian town that feels very safe.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Social life is intertwined with school life. Friends are the people you live, study and play sports with. We had formal social events like semi-formal dances, which were fun. The mix of cultures means you learn a lot from your peers informally.
