Activities During Boarding School I participated in the school's badminton team and was the Freshman class president for the school year of 2001/2002.
Reflections and Advice:

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?

I believe that Oldfields was different from any school I have been to, due to the fact that Oldfields School is a school of traditions. There are many traditions that are held at Oldfields, for instance, Green and White Night, finding the Thingamabob, and the beautiful graduation at the first weekend of June down 'graduation hill'.

2.)  What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?

The best thing for me, was that I grew as a person. I got to know myself through many struggles that I had to go through.

3.)  What would you have done differently during your boarding school experience?

nothing

4.)  What would you never want to change about your school?

the traditions that oldfields school embraces.

5.)  What things could be improved about your school?

the advisor/advisee system.

6.)  Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?

none

Academics:

1.) What did you like best about your school’s academics?

I liked the fact that the teachers were always available to the students. The majority of the teachers live on campus so all it takes is a stroll around to see your English teacher regarding an essay, or your math teacher for homework.

2.) What did you like least about the academics in your school?

The thing that I liked least about the academics...well there isn't really anything bad about the academics. The classes at Oldfields are the best in the United States.

Athletics:

1.) What did you like best about your school’s athletics?

The best thing about Oldfields athletics is the fact that everyone is able to participate in any sport that they would like to try out.

2.) What did you like least about the athletics in your school?

The sports at Oldfields are not at the competitive level except for Field Hockey and Lacrosse.

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) What did you like best about your school’s art program?

It is not mandatory.

2.) What did you like least about your school’s art program?

There isn't enough diversity....and many students who try out for the play may feel neglected and not worth much after they make the cut list.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) What did you like most about the extracurricular activities offered at your school?

I was in the student council and started Oldfield's first ColorGuard program.

2.) What did you like least about the extracurricular activities offered at your school?

There really weren't many choices to choose from unless you started your own club.

Dorm Life:

1.) What was the best thing about dorm life in your school?

The friends. Many of the friends around you would be from different parts of the United States or, in my case, from Korea. I learned so much about different cultures around the world.

2.) What did you like least about dorm life?

The curfews for the weekend. Even if we just wanted somebody to stay on campus for a weekend, we need to through a whole process where the guest's parents needed to call as well as your parents.

Dining:

1.) What was the best thing about your dining arrangements?

The food was great and so was the kitchen staff!

2.) What did you like least about your dining arrangements?

nothing.

Social and Town Life:

1.) How welcome did you feel by the other students when you first arrived at the school?

When I first arrived to the school I made friends instantly. The first couple of days at the school are spent doing trust excersies with the whole student body and faculty.

2.) Describe the level of diversity and integration of students in your school:

The diversity is not that great. I am of a mixed culture and there was only 8% of other races other than white.

3.) Describe typical fun activities you did on a weekend:

The weekends are so much fun! There are Saturday night dances called mixers where you interact with other boys' schools and other girls' schools. I met my boyfriend of a year and five months at thw Woodberry Forest School mixer. :)

4.) What was the town like?

No, the town is dead basically. I am coming from Chicago and I had to get used to being in the country and a 15 minute ride away from any store like Wal-mart or a movie theatre.
