Reflections and Advice:

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?

The campus is absolutely beautiful and the teachers are very accessible.

2.)  What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?

I've just learned who I am. I probably would not have even graduated from high school or gone to college if I had not gone there. While I occasionally got in trouble at Pomfret, it was nothing compared to the trouble my friends got into at home. I also learned to be an independent person and do things for myself.

3.)  What would you have done differently during your boarding school experience?

I guess I wish I had looked at more boarding schools before choosing one, but I had a good experience at Pomfret and met some amazing people. I would have also liked to stay out of trouble a little more, and I would have studied more.

4.)  What would you never want to change about your school?

I think there is always room for improvement/change.

5.)  What things could be improved about your school?

The quality of the dorms. Also, central A/C and heating would be a blessing!

6.)  Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?

I had a lot of fun in the dorms, especially the Arcades. There are less people down there so you get to know people really well. But it's not really where you are, but who you're with that's important.

Academics:

1.) What did you like best about your school’s academics?

I liked that it was challenging but teachers were always willing to help you.

2.) What did you like least about the academics in your school?

Some classes were close to impossible and some teachers are condescending.

Athletics:

1.) What did you like best about your school’s athletics?

While I did not appreciate it at the time, looking back I like that we were required to play sports It made me try sports that I had never dreamed of playing. The new facilities are nice, too.

2.) What did you like least about the athletics in your school?

The varsity hockey teams got special treatment from many teachers.

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) What did you like best about your school’s art program?

Everything. We had many talented students. Facilities were great. The art room is beautiful.

2.) What did you like least about your school’s art program?

The dance program could be strengthened.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) What did you like most about the extracurricular activities offered at your school?

Besides sports, I really did not do many extracurricular activities.

2.) What did you like least about the extracurricular activities offered at your school?

Not too many available and not enough time for them. With school, sports, dinner and studyingthere is hardly enough time to socialize, let alone be involved in more activities.

Dorm Life:

1.) What was the best thing about dorm life in your school?

Living with friends is great. You get really close to peope. Also, 9th and 10th graders have an earlier curfew than 11th and 12th graders.

2.) What did you like least about dorm life?

Room mates are not always the best, and some stealing goes on, especially from the laundry room. Also, the phones and internet are shut off at a certain times which can be very inconvenient. However, now most people have cell phones so that's good.

Dining:

1.) What was the best thing about your dining arrangements?

There was always cereal available even when the kitchen wasn't open.

2.) What did you like least about your dining arrangements?

Not much diversity in food. It got really boring eating the same things so often.

Social and Town Life:

1.) How welcome did you feel by the other students when you first arrived at the school?

Freshmen live across the street from everyone else, so they are all together. It's a great system because they get to know each other really well and are all going through the same things. The school is very clique-y and it is important to make friends early. It is also helpful if you begin at Pomfret as a freshman.

2.) Describe the level of diversity and integration of students in your school:

There are a good number of South Americans, Germans, and Koreans. Everyone except the Koreans pretty much mingle with each other.

3.) Describe typical fun activities you did on a weekend:

There were activities in the field house such as dances, sumo wrestling, etc. Sometimes there were trips to Providence, RI or Boston.

4.) What was the town like?

The school is in the middle of nowhere. Basically, the only thing to do was go to Kmart and TJMax in Putnam.
