Activities During Boarding School the powerful word--i was a member and president of this creative wrting club the art club--member and president i was art and literary editor of the literary magazine
Reflections and Advice:

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?

extremely strict and traditional, stifling to anyone who seems to break out of the mold (ex. does not wear j. crew) very small (350 or so students) very closed off to the surrounding town very little emphasis, money in the arts, much emphasis on hockey--esp. boys' hockey

2.)  What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?

i'm glad i wwent to a place where i never felt i really fit in because it forced me to explore who i really was and although difficult, made my life after highschool much more rewarding because i got to college, where i was accepted and fit in, but wasn't pestered by this huge need for that, and could still retain my independance. i also made some very meaningful relationships with some professors, which i feel could not happen in the same wway at a public high school

3.)  What would you have done differently during your boarding school experience?

i don't think i'd do anything over in my life differently because i'm happy now, and changing it might jeopardize my happiness

4.)  What would you never want to change about your school?

size, maybe

5.)  What things could be improved about your school?

almost everything else, but especially in terms of diversity, not only among class and race but among different types of thinkers, to not be such a closed world

6.)  Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?

edge dorm is the best, although i think they may have renovated since i graduated. just make sure you feel very comfortable in the social setting, because that will be a huge part of your life. there are not many small cliques. there is one or two, and the rest of people are outcasts.

Academics:

1.) What did you like best about your school’s academics?

small classes, and some very dedicated teachers

2.) What did you like least about the academics in your school?

the student body intellect not much diversity nor options in classes

Athletics:

1.) What did you like best about your school’s athletics?

i hated athletics

2.) What did you like least about the athletics in your school?

anyone who wanted to do an exemption for art, community service, etc., was treated as aa secondclass citizen

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) What did you like best about your school’s art program?

individual attention, i suppose, because no one was interested in doing art also, for the same reasons, the facilities were more available to those interested

2.) What did you like least about your school’s art program?

it consisted of mostly one art class, sometimes independant studies, and no art history

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) What did you like most about the extracurricular activities offered at your school?

there was a lot of student participation, and anything you wanted to do you were able to at least attempt it monetary support for the school was minimal, but generally faculty would support in other ways: their time, advice, etc.

2.) What did you like least about the extracurricular activities offered at your school?

many seemed empty, more of something to write on a college application than anything else

Dorm Life:

1.) What was the best thing about dorm life in your school?

the late night dance aprties and bonding that could not possibly exist in any other setting also, my dorm the last two years wwas especially nice and comfortable--a good sized single, carpeting, windowseat, few girls to a hall (especially important because it meant few girls to a bathroom), a study bay at either end of the hall and a common room in the middle

2.) What did you like least about dorm life?

curfews, male/female interaction (or lack of), the tendency for grls on a hall to develop group eating disorders and influence each other negatively

Dining:

1.) What was the best thing about your dining arrangements?

salad bar

2.) What did you like least about your dining arrangements?

trying to find vegetarian options that were eddible, especially at sitdown dinners (which were usually painful)

Social and Town Life:

1.) How welcome did you feel by the other students when you first arrived at the school?

never really fit in--the cool kids were young republicans wwho wore bowties and said ridiculously stupid comments like, 'art is for burn outs'

2.) Describe the level of diversity and integration of students in your school:

no integration whatsoever, very little diversity in terms of class or race, and almost all students of a minority sat at the same 1 table at lunch

3.) Describe typical fun activities you did on a weekend:

get off campus as much as possible watch movies dances

4.) What was the town like?

you did venture in, there are some restaurants within walking distance and a viddeo rental place otherwise, a day student could drive you to the stripmall or the movies, with special permission
