About the Author:

Years Attended Boarding School:
2022-2023
Sports and Activities:
My main extracurricular was helping with the school‘s coffee shop King‘s Corner. Since I had experience and interest in marketing, I joined their social media team to help with creating and sharing content. Later, when the previous team leader decided to focus on other activities, I took over the position of marketing team manager.
College Enrolled:
None yet
Home Town, State:
Loxahatchee

Reflections and Advice:

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
The one thing that makes The King‘s Academy unique, is that it’s providing an environment with talented, ambitious students. Everybody at TKA is incredibly hard-working and willing to put in a lot of effort to work towards their goals. Just by being in this kind of environment, you work harder and are more motivated to give it your all.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
Every January, TKA overs the Mission Trip to Nicaragua, where they work with an NGO to build houses in impoverished suburban areas. Even though the trip is extremely popular, I signed up early enough to be a part of it. The four days in Nicaragua have changed me deeply. Not only the opportunity of team building with other students, but helping the people in Nicaragua was amazing, which I’m so grateful for.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
My advice is to be very open about new people. Try to introduce yourself to as many people as somehow possible. And even though most of these people won’t play a big role in your time at the school, some might turn out be your best friends.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
Easy: The people.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Definitely check out TV Production with Mr. Parenti. Probably the nicest teacher world has ever seen. Oh, and don’t leave your lunch unsupervised on the patio. The crows are very greedy.

Academics:

1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
I got to join some very special classes, which few schools can offer, such as TV-Production, Marketing, or Accounting. These and many other courses offered at TKA provide real, hands-on experiences, which help you to find your own strengths, talents, and interests. I also enjoyed that many teachers provided religious education in class. Some teachers started the day by reading through bible verses to then talk about it with the students. Others started class with a prayer.

Athletics:

1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Even though I focused more on the academics, I soon realized that the school’s athletics program has much to offer. TKA has 28 varsity athletic teams, which often lead in the region. The campus provides all kinds of facilities, such as a swimming pool, a football stadium, tennis courts, and so on. No matter what sport you like, King‘s very probably has got you covered.

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
The theatre program at The King‘s Academy is exceptional. I got to watch one of their shows in the on-campus well-equipped theatre and was blown away. As noted earlier, King‘s has talented students in almost every field, including creativity. The products they create and present to the school community are of unbelievable high quality.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
As noted earlier, I got to participate in the marketing team of the school‘s in-house coffee shop. Other than that, King‘s has much to offer. The school has got a large diversity of available extracurriculars which certainly include great options for everyone.

Dorm Life:

1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
Even though TKA offers dorms as an option, it too has many host families, who house students during their time at the school. I stayed with a family in which all the kids went to TKA, which was amazing. I never had problems with the family and if I would have had some, I know I could have talked to the responsible teachers anytime and they would have helped to resolve it.

Dining:

1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
The food was always freshly cooked by an amazing team of chefs on campus. The school offered a big variety of food, including vegan options.

Social and Town Life:

1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
TKA is located in West Palm Beach, about 15 minutes away from downtown. The campus is by surrounded by different plazas, stores, coffee shops etc.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Most of my social life happened on campus. Though, the school regularly offered trips to amusement parks, museums, arcades etc., which helped creating and strengthening friendships with other students.
