1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
The professors and the students at VES are what make this school incredible--the people are individuals who, together, can make anyone feels as though they are at home and in an alternate reality. I was a Floridian, and I'm currently a New Yorker, but each of these names are transient. What I know I'll always be (and always proud to be) is a Bishop.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
My junior year, I took AP Composition and it definitively narrowed my focus in terms of life goals. I learned what I was good at and what I was passionate about. Not to mention the support I've received even after graduating, which has been precious, invaluable, and empowering.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
I would have been even more open, more kind, less insecure, and more outspoken. But those come with the territory of being in high school, so that's mostly just nostalgia talking. My advice would be that it is okay to feel sad, afraid, insecure, and skeptical. But I would elaborate on those justified feelings and say that by attending boarding school, and VES in particular, you are embarking on an experience that, when looked back upon, was all about the individuals who showed you how to embrace these natural tendencies and turn them into productive and self-loving individuals.

Perkins lounge forever. Biscuitville Wednesdays forever. Be a boarder and utilize your resources!!
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The workload is manageable, but the professors challenge each student to their utmost--your performance in class doesn't necessarily define you as a person, but you as a person can help your professor improve your performance. The English department at VES changed my life forever.
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
As a natural-born non-athlete, I get confused looks when I tell people I played four sports in high school. But they don't understand the relationships I formed with teammates and coaches in each season and the traits I've acquired as a team member. Although participating is mostly mandatory (there are exceptions for dancers, etc), being a student athlete as VES only fostered my love of other humans, healthy competition, and knowing when to tell an opponent, "great job."
1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
During my time, the arts at VES were largely under the radar. However, with infrastructural improvements being completed now, I rest assured that the tiny black box theatre lovers will have ample room to grow and improve.
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
The relationships one fosters in class and on dorm are priceless--but the extra curricular a allows those who wouldn't otherwise meet have n opportunity to get to know one another. It's hard to stereotype at VES when you join with people whom you would never expect to see sharing their interest in passions outside of class and athletics.
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Lynchburg is small but accommodating--restaurants, shopping, and entertainment was know more than 20 minutes away.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
The social life at VES is its own strange network of small-school inside jokes and community appreciation. If you are kind and open, the student body will open its arms to you; even those reluctant at first seem to find their niche. I made lifelong friends (my best friend was my roommate for 3 years) and still keep I touch with them today. Very frequently. Ongoing separation anxiety.
