Southern Preparatory Academy - Review #3
About the Author:
|Years Attended Boarding School:||2014-2019|
|Sports and Activities:||As a Cadet, I got involved in everything I could be a part of. I loved being part of the Drill Team, Football Team, Rifle Team, Sentinel Newspaper Staff, Basketball Team, Color Guard and many other clubs that I was able to qualify for. I loved staying busy and it paid off. I was a very hyper young man and had lots of energy so being a part of all the non-academic activities filled my time with productive things to do and taught me that using my energy towards productive things was better that using my energy on things that were not good for me. The staff at Southern Prep Academy will guide your son to new productive and academic heights. I attend The University of North Carolina and the Study Halls we had nightly at Southern Prep Academy have really laid the foundation for my study habits @ The University I am attending. I use the Southern Prep Academy experience in my everyday College work.|

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
I really liked the Campus! 400 Acres of Hills, Grass, Football and Baseball Fields, Lakes (2 of them), Hiking Trails, Roads, Rifle Ranges, Indoor Swimming Pool, Historic Buildings and Beautiful Rolling Hills. This Campus is full of History and Beauty. I loved running around the Campus as a Cadet. Always something to do in my free time. i loved the staff as well and still do. The staff @ Southern Prep Academy is a close knit group who all have one purpose and one purpose only and that is to create the best learning and nurturing environment for a young man enrolling into this fantastic Academy. I still love the memories and the close friendships I have made with staff and other Cadets. I still miss the love and activities I experienced as a Cadet while growing up there and highly recommend this school to any parent who is on the fence whether to enroll there son into this Academy. It continues to be the gift that keeps on giving!!
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
The Best thing to happen to me in a boarding school was to focus on learning and focus on myself and my goals. I had a rough time at home so this school gave me some piece of mind in clearing my head. I was able to put the problems I had at home aside and excel at the task at hand on Campus.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
If I had to do it all over again, I would of stuck it out and graduated from Southern Prep Academy. I was really doing well in school up there but my family wanted me home. I wanted to go back so bad and I wished I could of completed school there. I attended 5th through 10th Grade. I went to live with my Father after the 10th grade but I now regret not being an official graduate after spending 5 happy years @ Southern Prep!
4.) What did you like most about your school?
I loved the people, staff and other Cadets I met. I met some great people and I am still in touch with these people today. I miss being a Cadet and visit as often as possible.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
This school was a God Send for me and my family when I was young. I was not doing well in school after my parents divorced as a 4th Grader. My parents business was picking up and I was hard to handle. I was not a happy kid growing up with my step father and four sisters. I wanted out and my parents wanted to send me somewhere where I would excel. They loved me that much even through all the stress of raising me, to send me to this fantastic Academy. I thank my Mother everyday even now for giving me such a great education. I couldn't have been more blessed to have been sent to this school. The staff loved me and I loved them. The school taught me so much in being kind to others and taking pride in myself and my accomplishments. I loved growing up at this school and I will never forget the staff that raised me there. I have excelled in everything I have put my mind to and Southern Prep Academy has given me the Life Tools in how to study and reach for the highest in my dreams and goals. I love visiting this campus and I look forward to the events that are held on campus that Alumni and Parents can come back to and attend.
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Southern Prep Academy was just fantastic in being able to spend quality time with me after or before class when I needed some help in the course of study I was in. The 2 Hour Study Halls gave me the time I needed to study. The teachers were always on hand if I needed some special attention in or out of school During Study Halls the teachers would walk through and help cadets that needed help with the homework assigned. I loved the School Building (Tallapoosa Hall). The building is legendary. The building has so much history. So many great school events have been held in that school building. Very proud of that building and loved marching in formation to school every morning. At night the Clocks on top of the building pretty much light up the campus with a beautiful glow. The building itself is an architectural marvel.
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Love the Athletic Program. The Cadets love athletics up on campus and the coaches instill the Fighting Rangers Attitude for all the cadets to experience. Whether you are a player or a spectator at a Southern Prep Academy athletic event, you will feel and be inspired by the School Spirit and the RANGER PRIDE!! Football, Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Running and Tennis are all there for the Cadets to enjoy and be a part of.
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
I loved being part of the Drill Team on Campus. I loved getting on the School Bus and representing Southern Prep Academy at Veterans Day Parade and different Parades held throughout the year in Honor of our Veterans. Birmingham, Dothan, Auburn, Camp Hill and many other cities in Alabama love when Southern Prep Academy is in attendance during the Parade Routes. Southern Prep Academy participates in many Parade Functions throughout the State of Alabama and are an Honorary School of Distinction. The Crowds love The Southern Prep Academy Cadets, Drill Teams and Color Guard participating yearly in Annual Parades throughout Alabama and Georgia.
1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
Living in a Dorm was so much fun! I made a lot of lifetime friends in these Dorms @ Southern Prep Academy! I have friends for Life that I have made in these Dorms. We shared music together and learned how to work as a team when getting ready for the Annual Federal Inspections that were held on Campus. We had to learn how to clean and keep our areas and personal space ORDERLY! We shined our boots, folded our clothes and kept our personal space in very good ORDER. The school sets very HIGH STANDARDS in this area and every Cadet will learn in taking pride in themselves. The Dorm is where you can relax but it is also an area where you study, read, listen to music, learn the art of working as a team in cleaning the Dorm and keeping the DORM clean with the Highest of Standards imposed by the School Regulations. The Dorm Home away from Home for The Cadets and Discipline is taught here as well as in the School Building.
1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
I loved the Dining Hall. Ate with my friends in here and there was always a great variety of food to eat. Loved drinking Milk and eating Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner in there. The Dining Staff has always been great to the Cadets and they look after the Cadets with providing the most nutritional foods and tasty foods. Miss the Mess Hall!!
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
I still have friends that live in the surrounding towns off Campus @ Southern Prep Academy. Nearby, you have Still Waters and a Public Lake in Dadeville, Will never forget our Saturday field trips to the Lake in Still Waters or in Dadeville. Cookouts were awesome! I loved the Churches that are in Camp Hill and still have friends that attend those Churches even until this day. Learned a lot about good morals and character in these small towns that surround Southern Prep Academy. There are very good people that live in the surrounding towns and I still love visiting them when I come to town for Military Day or Homecoming on Campus every year. I love this area of the Country.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
I loved Homecoming and Military Day @ Southern Prep Academy. I loved meeting Alumni and other Cadets parents. Socially I loved having so many Cadet friends that I still call my brothers. I loved the friendship and bond I created with other Cadets.
